Day 2: The Voice of the Father
Reading: Matthew 3:13-17 and Matthew 17:5
Devotional: Twice in the Gospels, the Father's voice breaks through from heaven to speak over his Son. At the baptism and at the Transfiguration, the words are nearly identical, declaring love and pleasure. But at the Transfiguration, the Father adds something urgent and personal: listen to him. That addition is not accidental. It is a command directed at every disciple in every generation. Knowing the words of Jesus is not the same as obeying them. The Father is not asking for admiration. He is asking for obedience rooted in love, a life genuinely shaped by the voice of his Son.
Reflection: Is there a teaching of Jesus that you have heard repeatedly but have not yet surrendered to? What would it look like to truly listen, not just with your ears but with your life?
Practical Application: Read John 14:21, where Jesus connects love for him directly to keeping his commands. Identify one specific command of Christ that you will commit to obeying more intentionally this week and write it down as a personal covenant.
Day 3: Knowing Jesus, Not Just Knowing About Him
Reading: John 14:15-21
Devotional: There is a profound difference between knowing facts about a person and truly knowing them. Many people in Jesus's day knew the scriptures, could recite the law, and recognized his name, yet they never surrendered their lives to him. The same danger exists today. A person can grow up in church, memorize scripture, and still keep Jesus at arm's length because full surrender feels too costly. But Jesus promises in John 14:21 that the one who keeps his commands will experience the love of the Father and will be shown the very presence of Christ. Obedience is not the price of relationship. It is the evidence of it.
Reflection: Honestly examine your faith. Is your knowledge of Jesus living in your head or has it taken root in your heart? What area of your life still resists his lordship?
Practical Application: Spend time in prayer today confessing any area where you have been a hearer of the word but not a doer. Ask the Holy Spirit to move his truth from your mind into genuine transformation of your daily choices.
Day 4: Jesus Is the Only Way
Reading: John 14:1-7 and Acts 4:10-12
Devotional: The culture surrounding us works hard to make the exclusivity of Christ feel embarrassing or intolerant. Yet Jesus himself, in John 14:6, declared without hesitation that he is the way, the truth, and the life, and that no one comes to the Father except through him. This is not arrogance. This is grace. A world lost in darkness does not need more options. It needs a light. A person drowning does not need more water. They need rescue. Jesus is that rescue. The exclusivity of the gospel is not a wall built to keep people out. It is a door, the only door, flung wide open for all who will come.
Reflection: How confident are you in sharing the exclusivity of Christ with others? Does cultural pressure cause you to soften or avoid this truth? How might you speak it with both boldness and love?
Practical Application: Read Acts 4:10-12, where Peter declares before rulers that there is no other name under heaven by which people must be saved. Practice saying aloud, in your own words, a clear and loving explanation of why Jesus is the only way to the Father.
Day 5: Shine the Light, Tell the Secret
Reading: Matthew 5:14-16 and Romans 10:13-15
Devotional: Jesus instructed his disciples to keep the secret of the Transfiguration only until after his resurrection. That time has passed. The resurrection is history. The secret is out, and we are now entrusted with the most important message the world has ever heard. Yet many believers carry the gospel silently, walking past hurting people every day without ever speaking the name that can save them. Romans 10:14 asks a piercing question: how will they hear without someone preaching? You are the lighthouse on a dangerous coastline. The lamp has been lit. Do not let the needs of the moment cause you to forget your one great purpose. Shine.
Reflection: Think of someone in your life who does not yet know Jesus. What is one practical and genuine step you can take this week to shine the light of Christ toward that person?
Practical Application: Write the name of one person you will intentionally pray for and pursue in love this week. Commit to praying for them daily, looking for a natural opportunity to share what Jesus has done in your life, and trusting the Holy Spirit to do what only he can do in their heart.

So this morning I want to conclude in this series that I began three weeks ago, four weeks ago, called The Way.
And I want to begin this day by asking a question.
Who here today has ever had to keep a secret?
All right.
Well, within my own family, my mother is the worst secret keeper.
it's not because she maliciously goes out to tell the secret she just will be in a casual conversation and not be thinking and give it all away spill the beans and we probably all know somebody or we are that person in life in the text that we're going to look at this morning and we're going to be looking at today jesus
asks his most trusted disciples to keep one of the most amazing secrets of all times.
In Matthew chapter 17, and that's where I will ask you to turn to this morning, Matthew chapter 17, we're going to look at this moment in history of Jesus and his disciples as they go off on their own, and we're gonna read about what takes place when they go out.
So there in Matthew chapter 17, we're gonna look at verses one through nine, all right?
Here we go.
After six days, Jesus took with him Peter, James, and John, the brother of James, and led them up on a high mountain by themselves.
There he was transfigured before them, his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light.
Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah talking with Jesus.
Peter said in verse four to Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here.
If you wish, I will put up three shelters, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.
Verse five, while he was still speaking, a bright cloud enveloped them and a voice from the cloud said, this is my son whom I love, with him I am well, please listen to him.
When the disciples heard this, they fell face down to the ground, terrified, but Jesus came and touched them.
Get up, he said.
Don't be afraid.
When they looked up, they saw no one except for Jesus.
In verse nine, as they were coming down the mountain, Jesus instructed them, and here it is right here.
Here's the secret.
Don't tell anyone what you have seen until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.
let us pray dear heavenly father we humbly come this day god we thank you for what you've done in our hearts and in our service and our place this morning god of worship god i ask that next few moments of time that you would bless your word as it goes forth anoint the ears to hear and these lips to speak your word god change us challenge us grow us in your ways father

As you can see in this passage, as it was read, Jesus reveals his true identity to three of his 12 disciples.
The Father speaks from heaven and they are forbidden from talking about what they've seen until after Jesus has been raised from the dead.
There's a lot going on in this passage of Scripture, so I'm gonna take a chunk at a time, all right?
I'm just gonna take a chunk at a time, the first of which is being revealed, His divine glory breaking through.
The word transfigure means a complete change of form or appearance into a more beautiful or spiritual state.

the fabric of Jesus's humanity was pulled back and his divine, holy nature was revealed.
What an awesome scene it must have been to have been in that place, to walk up with the Jesus incarnate flesh, but seeing the Jesus in his glorified nature after they got to the top of that mountain.
I just want that to speak to your spirit this morning.
Do you see Jesus for who he really is?
Not just as a good teacher, not just a moral example, not just a historical figure who lived 2,000 years ago.
I think many of us have domesticated Jesus.
We've made him comfortable as I spoke earlier.
We've turned him into a life coach or a spiritual advisor.
Hebrews 1.3 tells us that he is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being.
When you truly see Jesus for who he is, I'm gonna tell you this morning, I'm gonna say it, it changes everything.
Everything.
It will change how you pray.
It will change how you worship.
It will change how you live.
It will change how you face trials and sufferings.
Why?
Because when you have seen the glory of the Son of God, nothing in this world looks the same.

The second chunk I wanna point out to you this morning and share with you today
that his true identity is the beloved son.
Matthew 17, verses five through eight.
We read it, let's read it again, let's look at it again.
While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them and a voice from the cloud said, this is my son whom I love.
With him I am well pleased.
Listen to him.
When the disciples heard this, they fell face down to the ground, terrified.
But Jesus came and he touched them.
Man, I don't know about you this morning, but I'm thankful for the touch of Jesus in my life.
And he said, get up.
I mean, you ever been in a state where you have sinned or fallen short of God's glory and you feel the touch of God on you telling you, get up?
Get up.
Don't be afraid.
repent i would add that not to the scripture but i would add to you this morning repent get up don't be afraid and repent and move forward in the things of the lord when they looked up they saw no one except for jesus man does that not speak to your heart today come on i don't want to miss jesus for the forest or the trees i want to see jesus in his glory at all times
In the midst of my circumstance, I wanna see Jesus.
This isn't the first time that a booming voice from heaven has spoken over Jesus in scripture.
In Matthew 3, verse 17, when Jesus was baptized, a voice from heaven said, this is my son whom I love.
With him, I am well pleased.
There's a difference.
And what was said at both moments in Matthew chapter 17, this morning's text, God the Father adds the command, listen to him.
As a believer, it's not enough to just know the teachings of Christ.
It is imperative that we adhere to the teachings of Christ.
Not simply be like the seed that's thrown on the rocky soil.
That never takes deep root.
May the word of God take deep root into our lives and we be rooted in Jesus deeply.
That we model our lives after his love.
After his love of others as he has loved.
And we must follow in his footsteps.
John chapter 14 verse 21.
Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me.
Hear that this morning?
Whoever has my, Jesus is speaking to us today.
Whoever has my commands and keeps them, that means obeys them, is the one who loves me.
You can say I love Jesus and be disobedient.
Is that really loving Jesus?
I gotta tell you, from what Jesus has said, no.
That to me, that's what we call a hypocrite, a part-timer in the things of Christ.
And yes, we all fall short, but we can't make it a lifestyle.
We cannot be someone else all the time.
There are days when you're gonna wake up on the wrong side of the bed.
It happens to the best of us.
Years ago, there was a gentleman that was sharing about their ministry travels.
Excuse me, their ministry travels.
And in the midst of him sharing, he said he had a fellow that walked up to him one day and asked him, hey, I know you travel a lot.
I know you minister a lot.
I know you're going to many places and stuff.
Is there ever a time that you wake up in the morning grumpy?
You wake up grumpy.
And he responded, no, I just go ahead and let her sleep in.
We wake up grumpy at times.
We wake up on the wrong side.
My grandma, I shared this with you before, my grandma Hardcastle, sometimes she'd say, oh Kel, you need to go get back in bed and get up on the right side of the bed.
Sometimes we need to get up, go back to bed and get up, back up on the right side of the bed.
We all have those days, but we can't stay there.
If we follow his commands, we truly love him.
The one who loves me will be loved by my Father and I too will love them and show myself to them.
I wanna see Jesus.
I want to see Jesus at work in my life and at work in your life.
Praise God.
I read about a man who spent years running from God.
He grew up in church, knew the accounts of the Bible, could recite the Ten Commandments and the Lord's Prayer without even thinking about them.
But somewhere along the way, he decided that following Jesus was too costly.
It was costing him way too much.
It would mean giving up certain relationships, certain habits, certain ambitions, and that was just too much for him.
So he ran.
He built a life that looked successful from the outside.
He had a good job, a nice house, the respect of his peers, but inside he was empty.
He later said, I knew about Jesus my whole life, but I didn't know him.
I hadn't let his word get past my head and into my heart.
And until I did, I was terrified of what he might ask of me.
You know, today, we cannot fear anything, and especially not fear the hand of God at work in our lives.
There's a difference between knowing about Jesus and knowing Jesus.
God the Father didn't say, this is my son, now learn some facts about him.
The Bible says, and God said, listen to him.
That word listen implies obedience, it implies relationship, it implies a life that is shaped by the voice of the Son of God.
So question this morning, do you love Jesus and follow his teachings?
Or do you cherry pick the things that you wanna follow and leave the rest behind?
That's a question only you can answer.
But I do believe that between you and God, you're the ones that truly know the answer to that question.
Jesus is the way, and guess what?
The secret is out.
Why is the secret out?
Because he's raised from the dead now.
We need to tell people.
Need to tell people about these great things.
In the Bible, Jesus is quoted as saying in John 14, six, I am the way, the truth, and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through me.
Now, there's been some preachers over the years that have either gotten tongue-tied or I don't know what's happened to them, but when they're asked, is Jesus the only way, they're like, no, right here, John 14, 6.
He is the only way.
He is the only truth.
He is the only life, and he is the only way to the Father.
It's Jesus Christ all the way, man.
There ain't no ifs, ands, or buts about it.
there's no stuttering to it jesus is the only means of salvation and through faith in him a person can have a personal relationship with god and eternal life in heaven it doesn't there aren't many roads to heaven there's only one road it's through jesus christ we follow him on that road we live in a culture that wants to keep jesus's secret
Our pagan culture tells us that it's intolerant to say that there's only one way to heaven, that you should feel ashamed of that faith.
It tells us that all roads lead to God, that all religions are equally valid, that truth is relative and personal.
But that's man's word, not God's word.
The only opinion that I'm interested in and I trust and pray that you are interested in is the opinion of Jesus and God's word.
And God's word is clear.
Jesus is the only way.
If you had the cure for cancer, would you keep it to yourself?
If you knew how to save someone from a burning building, would you stay silent and let them burn?
Of course not.
I would hope not.
You'd shout from the rooftops.
You would shout the answer from the rooftops.
You would shout and you would also go into and save that person.
You would do whatever it took to get that information that you had to people who needed it.
Yet many of us who know Jesus, who have experienced His grace, His forgiveness, His transforming power, we walk through our days without ever mentioning His name to anybody.
We have a cure for the greatest disease of all, sin and death, and we're keeping it locked up on the inside.
There's an old story about a lighthouse keeper on a dangerous stretch of coastline.
His job was simple, keep the light burning.
Ships depend on that light to navigate the rocks and the reefs.
One night, a terrible storm rolled in.
The keeper's own family was visiting and they were afraid.
He spent the night comforting them, trending or tending to them, excuse me, making sure that they were safe.
And in the process, he forgot to light the lamp.
The next morning, wreckage from three ships washed ashore.
The keeper was devastated.
He had been so focused on his own household that he forgot the one thing he was placed there to do, shine the light.
We have been placed here to shine the light of Christ.
Not just for ourselves, not just for our families, but for a world that is lost and dying in darkness.
jesus says in matthew chapter 5 verses 14 through 16 you are the light of the world a town built on a hill cannot be hidden neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl instead they put it on its stand and it gives light to everyone in the house in the same way let your light shine before others
that they may see your good deeds and glorify your father in heaven there are many paths to follow in life many roads to choose from however there is only one that leads to eternal life and salvation it's a path through christ back to the father and into heaven
It's a path where the meek, the brokenhearted, the gentle, the persecuted, the peacemaker and others are welcome.
It's a path where we are invited to participate, to light the way for others and to keep the way with integrity and with righteousness.
It's not an easy path.
It may cost you, but it's worth it in the end.
If you have Jesus,
You have all that you need.
I'm here to speak this morning to you that there is no other way.
He is it.
He is the way.
You've been looking for the way, guess what?
Jesus is the way.
Well, how do I get to know Jesus?
Well, guess what?
It begins with reading the love letters of God.
I know there's a lot of non-love in here.
But with all the non-love, we see the hand of God moving upon his creation, upon his created to have a close-knit relationship with them, with you.
God is calling you today.
Do not, do not let Jesus walk by without touching him because he's here to touch you.
